Subscriptions and consent
Subscriptions and consent are not the same thing but instead work in tandem. When contacts provide consent they give you permission to communicate with them. Subscriptions control what type of content they want to receive.
The key is to keep your consent statement as broad as possible and develop multiple subscription options so your contacts can manage how they’d like you to communicate with them.
By taking this approach, you ensure you’re never sending emails your contacts haven’t consented to receive. And you’re also allowing your contacts to manage the emails they do receive, which can help reduce unsubscribes, and provide better overall engagement.
Collecting consent and subscription on forms
In the Engagement Builder, you can add a consent checkbox to your forms by clicking "Add new field" and choosing "Consent and Subscriptions".
You can customize the "Label" field to include your company name and any other message you would like to communicate to your users.
There are several display options:
- As a vertically aligned checkbox group, visible underneath the consent checkbox
- You can add multiple hidden subscriptions to your form. This option is should be used only when it is expressly stated that by filling out this form, the contact will be subscribed to that (those) subscription(s).
- You can choose to add just the consent checkbox, with no subscriptions. While there are some cases when this may be most appropriate, in general it is not recommended.
- This option allows you to choose whether your subscriptions will be displayed at all times or only after the consent checkbox is checked.
