Downloads allow contacts to request (download) content via email by filling out a form. A typical example is to download a PDF file.

Downloads are tracked to give you valuable insights about the performance of various content offers. You can access the downloads module under the Engagement tab. 

Below is an example of what the downloads module with some sample downloads may look like. 

On this screen, the following options and information are available:

  1. Create a new download offer.
  2. Move selected downloads into or out of download groups.
  3. Delete selected downloads.
  4. Search based on download name. For best results, click on the "All" group in the left hand navigation before searching. 
  5. Manage groups.
  6. The number of contacts who have requested a download.
  7. The number of times that offer was downloaded. (each contact = 1 download, multiples by the same contact are not recorded)
  8. Published: The offer is available to be added to your forms and landing pages.Unpublished: The offer is hidden from your forms and landing pages.This is useful because if you regularly update your files, and you have them available through various forms and landing pages on your site, you can manage them here. All the places they are available automatically reflect the latest published versions.

Add new downloads

Click the "new" button to add a new download, then configure settings on the next screen.

On this screen, you will be able to: 

  1. Choose to Publish or Unpublish your landing page. A published offer will appear on your forms and landing pages while an unpublished one will not.
  2. It's always a good idea to save your progress as you build out your offer.
  3. Place your offer directly into the desired group. Groups must be created in advance to make use of this option. 
  4. Give your offer a name. This name will be both internal and public facing.
  5. Upload your file.
  6. Upload your image. Note that images will be automatically scaled down to fit the offer block on your landing page.
  7. Add a description of your offer so users have a good idea of what they are downloading.
  8. You can choose to send a default system email with the download or send one customized by you. Clicking on "use a custom delivery message" opens up the option to edit the message directly from this screen.

This is an example of a complete download offer with an image, title and description. You will be able to choose how your download is displayed when adding it to your landing page.


Create a download form

In the form builder, add a new download field. After this step you can select to display a single (hidden) download option or a selection of multiple downloadable files.

Create a download landing page

If you'd like to offer your download on a separate landing page, this can also be built in the engagement builder.


Instead of attaching your downloads to your form, adding them to a landing page allows you to display multiple downloads along with titles, images and full descriptions. Users can then select the content they are interested in, which will be downloaded only once the required fields are filled out on the adjacent form.  

To add downloads to your landing page, ensure your page has at least two columns. One column will contain your form and the other, your offers. From there, click on 

 and choose "Add offer content".

You can choose to add a download group or manually add individual downloads to your page. From here, just choose how you would like the content to appear and the offer (or group of offers) will be added to your page. Note that the preview on the left hand side shows only one download from a group, as an example of how the content will be laid out.



On the downloads list you can see how many contacts requested a file and how many actually downloaded it (clicked the download link in the delivery email). Click the numbers to see a list of contacts.

Transactional messages

Emails that follow up on an offer request are called transactional messages. Each one of the offer types has one or more auto generated transactional messages related to the offer.

Note: Transactional messages do not require express consent. The consent to receive the message is implied once the user has requested the offer.
