The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a regulation for the privacy of individuals within the European Union (EU). It became effective on May 25, 2018. It applies to products or services delivered in the EU and personal data is processed and/or monitored as a result.
We use the country field to determine the location of contacts. If the country field is not present an account level default is used.
Unlike CASL, which applies to Canadian contacts, the GDPR consent regime doesn't include an implied consent state. Contacts are stored as either having provided express consent or not provided consent.
New EU contacts added to the database are inserted either with express consent state or as consent not provided.
We recommend that you include a country field for all contacts using ISO country codes.
Existing consent status updates
All EU contacts who had "implied" consent before May 25, 2018 have been updated to "consent not provided".
