View email reports
There are multiple ways to access email reports:
Click the stats icon from the messages list or click the "Stats" button, then the number in the "Volume" column
Or click the "View stats" button from the email editor screen:
Total number of emails sent excluding contacts who weren't eligible to be sent emails due to consent revoked, invalid email or too many bounces.
This is not the same as "emails delivered". Emails delivered = Sent - Bounces
Number of unique contacts who opened the message.
Multiple opens by the same contact are counted as one. For example: if a contact opens the message on their mobile phone, desktop at work and at home it's still counted as a single open.
Open tracking uses a small image called a "tracking pixel" - if images are disabled, opens cannot be tracked. In practice this means that reported opens are slightly lower than actual opens.
Opens may not be tracked for contacts who received the same message as a "test message" first.
Total number of unique recipients who clicked on a link in the email.
All links in emails are automatically tracked so you can see which links were clicked and by whom.
Only the first click on a link by a unique user is recorded. Subsequent clicks on the same link by the same user are not tracked. Unlike open tracking, click tracking doesn't use images, which means that there is no difference between reported and actual clicks.
For text links the linked text is shown in reports along with the destination website/URL.
For images either the image file URL is shown as the source of a click or the Alternative Text, if defined.
You should always add an Alternative Text for images, however, as it has many benefits:
- the Alternative Text is more meaningful in reports than the image file link
- in the case of long image file links the destination link may be truncated if Alternative Text isn't used
- the Alternative Text is shown if images cannot be loaded for someone reason
- the Alternative Text is used by screen readers for accessibility
Opens and clicks are not tracked in test messages.
- Envoke Spam Reported: A result of a user reporting the message as spam/abuse on the Envoke Consent and Subscription Preferences page.
- External Spam Reported: A result of a user clicking the "Report Spam" button inside their email client.
Contacts who were sent the e-blast but email delivery failed.
- Soft bounce is a temporary failure that may correct itself later (for example network down, mailbox full)
- Hard bounce is a permanent failure that will not work later (for example invalid email address)
Based on the combination of these failures contacts' fail score increases (by one or more points, depending on the severity of the failure). If the fail score reaches a threshold contacts will not be attempted to send emails anymore.
Contacts that were part of the target list but weren't sent the email for one of the following reasons:
- no valid consent: unsubscribed or consent expired
- invalid email: email no longer in service, typo, etc.
- fail score too high: too many previous failures; emails from previous e-blasts increased fail score beyond the threshold. More about fail scores here.
